A group of local "Heroes" will be working hard in May to help the Red Cross continue its services in Mower County.

"Heroes for the American Red Cross" is a grassroots campaign where local business people, school groups, church groups, civic clubs and individuals pledge to raise $1,000 for their local Red Cross chapter. This year, the fourth year of the campaign, the Mower County Chapter hopes to raise $10,000 to support Red Cross services, including disaster relief, assistance for fire victims, emergency military communications, first aid and CPR training and disaster preparedness information for our community. All money raised will support Mower County.

The team or individual who raises the most money receives the honor of putting the Heroes Trophy on display. The Heroes Trophy was designed by Jeff Anderson, of Anderson Memorials. Made of bronze, the trophy depicts two helping hands. It is on display at Accentra Credit Union, winner of the Heroes campaign 2009.

Interested people or teams can contact Brigitte Campbell, executive assistant at the Mower County Chapter, at 437-4589 or .
