The Southeast Minnesota Chapter of the Red Cross seeks volunteers willing to help with local and national response to natural disasters and emergencies.
Interested people may participate in training courses at no cost. The next classes will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the American Red Cross, 310 14th St. S.E., Rochester.
The classes include Introduction to Disaster Services, a prerequisite for all disaster classes, which provides basic information on the effect of disasters, outlines the role of agencies in disaster relief, and introduces the participants to Red Cross disaster services; Mass Care Overview teaches participants how the Red Cross meets disaster victims' immediate food and shelter needs; and Shelter Operations Overview prepares participants to manage shelter operations and meet the needs of people displaced by a disaster.
