Red Hawks get win over Patriots in playoffs

The Redhawks won an all-Rochester opening round game in the First District, Division I American Legion baseball playoffs Tuesday.

The Redhawks edged the Patriots 4-2 behind a complete-game six-hitter by Matt Meyer. Meyer struck out 10 in going all nine innings; all playoff games are nine-inning contests.

His counterpart David Arnett pitched well, too. The Redhawks scored two runs off him in the bottom of the first to go ahead 2-1. Singles by Andy Leisen and Ben Becker, a walk and sacrifice flies by Meyer and Tom Senne brought in the runs. The Pats had scored on an error and Ben Schafer's double.

The Redhawks added two runs in the sixth when Meyer singled, Senne doubled him in and Tim Wahl singled in Senne.

Becker and Senne had two hits each. Becker also made a sensational play in ranging far behind second base from his shortstop position.
