The Rochester Redhawks opened their American Legion baseball season with a doubleheader sweep of Onalaska, Wis., Tuesday at Mayo High School.
The Redhawks won the first game 7-2, as Rannon Arch tossed a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts. Paul McManus followed with a three-hitter in the second game, a 17-1 win in five innings.
The Redhawks had 18 hits in the two games combined. Steve Serratore and Kelby Halling had multiple hits in the first game; Garrett Benson, Travis Nordhus and Charlie Hinsch all had multiple hits in the second.
The Redhawks (2-0) meet the Rochester A’s at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Mayo High School.

PATS 9-3, KASSON 5-2
Pats open season
Four Rochester Patriots hitters had two or more hits as the team opened its season with a 9-5 win over Kasson on Tuesday.
The Patriots then won the second game of a doubleheader, edging Kasson 3-2 in the nightcap.
Alex Peterson was 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Pats in the first game. Brian Anderson was starting pitcher and "had a tough start, then settled in and threw well," coach Dutch Heiderscheit said. At bat, Anderson drove in three runs, including a two-run homer.
In the second game, Jeff Sipple "started and threw four strong innings," Heiderscheit said. Derek Hovick pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning for the save.

"They were a couple of well-played games," Heiderscheit said. "Kasson has a nice ballclub. We got some timely hitting and played pretty good defense all day."
The Pats are scheduled to meet the Rochester Eagles in a doubleheader Thursday at 4 p.m. at John Adams.
