Pats open season

Four Rochester Patriots hitters had two or more hits as the team opened its season with a 9-5 win over Kasson on Tuesday.

The Patriots then won the second game of a doubleheader, edging Kasson 3-2 in the nightcap.

Alex Peterson was 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Pats in the first game. Brian Anderson was starting pitcher and "had a tough start, then settled in and threw well," coach Dutch Heiderscheit said. At bat, Anderson drove in three runs, including a two-run homer.

In the second game, Jeff Sipple "started and threw four strong innings," Heiderscheit said. Derek Hovick pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning for the save.

"They were a couple of well-played games," Heiderscheit said. "Kasson has a nice ballclub. We got some timely hitting and played pretty good defense all day."
