Richard B. 'Dick ' Maland -- Lake City

LAKE CITY -- The funeral for Richard B. "Dick " Maland, 80, of Lake City, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Lutheran Church in Lake City. The Rev. Erik Feig will officiate, and internment will be at Lakewood Cemetery in Lake City.

Mr. Maland died Friday (Oct. 1, 2004) at the Lake City Hospital.

He was born April 17, 1924, in Harmony and served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant in the Pacific Theater in World War II, from 1942 to 1945. He received a B.A. in journalism from the University of Minnesota in 1949. That same year, he married Ilo Mae Klobe in Glencoe, Minn. They were married 55 years until her death in January 2004. As owner and president of Merit Export Corp. and later IBP Equipment Corp. from 1961 to 1989, he marketed and sold metalworking machinery worldwide. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Wabasha Rotary Club and served on the board of the Lake City Marina in the 1960s. He enjoyed sailing, cross-country skiing, bicycling, traveling and playing cribbage.

He is survived by three children, David (Jeanelle) Maland of Tyler, Texas, Jane (Gary) Schroeher of White Bear Lake, Minn., and Jim (Amy) Maland of St. Paul; seven grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and his twin sister.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City and for an hour prior to the service at the church Tuesday.
