Richard D. Gerard -- Mabel

MABEL -- The funeral for Richard D. Gerard will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel, with Steven Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the Henry Cemetery in rural Canton.

Mr. Gerard, 67, of Eugene, Ore., formerly of the Mabel and Spring Grove areas, died Wednesday (April 17, 2002) at his home.

He was born April 15, 1935, in Lanesboro and attended Lanesboro schools. Mr. Gerard was a logger in Washington until 1976, then lived in Spring Grove until moving to Oregon in 1982. On Nov. 20, 1954, he married Roggie Peterson in Preston, and they were later divorced. He married Carrie Brown in 1980 in Spring Grove; she died in 1993. On Nov. 19, 2000, he married Melodee Lee in Eugene, and she survives. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Survivors also include a daughter, Rita (James) Yonts of Rushford; four sons, Ron (Wendy) of LaPine, Ore., Rick (Lorie) of Dakota, Minn., Russell (Mary Lou) of Spring Grove and Robin (Lisa) of Sonora, Calif.; a stepson, Marvin Brown of Craig, Alaska; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Milton (Cora) of Newburg and Robert of Olympia, Wash. A sister and two brothers also preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of the service Thursday at the funeral home.
