AUSTIN -- The funeral for Richard J. Rappe was at 10:30 a.m. today at Lutheran Church of the Ascension in Burnsville, Minn. Interment was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Mr. Rappe, 71, of Burnsville, formerly of Austin, died Sunday (May 8, 2005).
Born Nov. 12, 1933, in Austin, he served in the Navy during the Korean War, worked 26 years as a physical education teacher at Faribault State Hospital, and helped organize the first Special Olympics in Minnesota.
Survivors include a daughter, Talli; a son, Troy; three grandchildren; and three brothers, Roger (Roberta), Chuck (Julie) and Tom (Diane).
Henry W. Anderson Mortuary of Minneapolis was in charge of arrangements.
