Post-Bulletin staff

The Riverland softball team remained in second place in the division with a split of a doubleheader on Tuesday against St. Cloud Technical College.

The Lady Blue Devils of Riverland won the first game 7-6, but then lost the second game 8-3 in the Minnesota Community College Conference, South Division doubleheader at the college field in Austin.

In the first game, it was tied at 5-5, when the Lady Devils rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and took the lead.

Sara Romeo started the decisive rally with a single and then stole second base. Holly Waltz then singled and stole second. Tracee Crowley next hit a two-run single to cap the rally.

"This was a good split for us," Riverland coach Dave Lillemon said. "We made a nice rally for a come-from-behind win in the opener."

Kaylee Newman got the pitching win in relief of Nicki Svoboda in the first game. Newman then started in the second game and took the loss.

"We had two errors in the fifth and it cost us dearly with five unearned runs," Lillemon said. "We played hard and are sitting in pretty good shape heading into the final week of the regular season, but there is still a long ways to go."
