From staff reports
More than 70 students and staff members from Riverland Community College went to St. Paul on Wednesday to participate in Rally Day at the Capitol.
The Minnesota State College Student Association and the Minnesota State University Student Association sponsored the trip and wanted to attract 5,000 students from the state’s higher-education system.
Under the theme "Students Imprisoned by Debt," attendees met at the Capitol to support higher education and affordable tuition rates.
The college-student association’s legislative goals for this year include the full funding of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system’s $177 million budget request and obtaining an additional $73 million to pay for a two-year tuition freeze.
