An Austin woman was driving Thursday afternoon to Rochester when she came across roughly 70 feet of a roadway’s northbound lane covered in hog manure.

Because of oncoming traffic, the 58-year-old woman had to drive her vehicle through the hog manure about 4:30 p.m. in the 32000 block of 630th Avenue in Sargeant Township, Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi said.

The woman told authorities she had her vehicle’s air conditioning on, which caused the inside of the car to smell like hog manure, even after she had the vehicle washed upon arriving in Rochester, Amazi said.

A contractor had been pumping hog manure out of holding pits at a nearby farm and had a spill occur on the last load from the property, Amazi said.
