Robert R. Harper — Rochester

ROCHESTER — The funeral service for Robert R. Harper will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church of Pine Island, with Rev. Greg Struck officiating. Burial will follow at the Pine Island Cemetery with military graveside rites.

Mr. Harper, 77, of Rochester, died Tuesday (April 1, 2008) at the Golden Living Center-Rochester West.

Robert Raymond Harper was born Aug. 13, 1930, in New Haven Township, Goodhue County. He attended rural country school and graduated from Pine Island High School. He entered the Army. On May 15, 1954, he married Mary Ann Jenkins in Richmond, Va. Following his discharge the family returned to Pine Island, where he worked as a police officer for 12 years. He was a custodian and bus driver for the Pine Island School System for 20 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the senior citizens centers of Rochester and Pine Island. He was a member of Charles Cowden Post 184 of the American Legion in Pine Island, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Rebekah Lodge, and the Minnesota Grange-New Hope Sod Busters, of Byron. He enjoyed dancing.

Survivors include one son, Mark of Delafield, Wis.; two daughters, Joan (Kraig) King, of Oronoco and Kim (Carl) Hagen of Austin; five grandchildren; two brothers, Donavon and Kenneth (Neletta) all of Rochester; two sisters, Janice (Richard) Erwin of Douglas and Lavonne (Richard) Macken of Ocala, Fla. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann, on July 23, 1985.

Visitation will be an hour before the service Friday at the church.

Mahn Family Funeral Home, Larson Chapel, in Zumbrota is in charge of arrangements.
