Rochester Montessori School has named Kelley Flanders as the new head of school.

Flanders was most recently head of school at Staunton Montessori School in Staunton, Va., a position she held since 2009.

She will be replacing Deborah Summerson, who has been the interim head of school since July 2019.

A statement from the school described Flanders as "a seasoned and passionate school administrator" and that she "brings an exceptional background in educational and organizational leadership, having led a Montessori School for many years as well as having a career in business prior to that. She has a deep appreciation for the Montessori method and extensive understanding of this pedagogy."

A graduate of Lake Forest College, Flanders also has a Montessori leadership certificate and expects to complete her Master of Montessori Education degree in May.

Rochester Montessori worked with Carney Sandoe and Associates to conduct an international search for the new head of school.

"Flanders’ experience and skills will continue to propel Rochester Montessori School as it pushes educational frontiers in our community," the statement from the school said.
