Anyone interested in learning more about how the Rochester Police Department operates can participate in the 10th annual Citizen's Police Academy.
The nine-week program begins at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Law Enforcement Center. It is open to people ages 18 and older who live and work in Rochester. Applicants must pass a criminal background check and be able to attend all eight classroom sessions and one ride with a police officer.
Applicants may call Darrel Hildebrant at 281-6056 or e-mail him at dhildebrant@ci.rochester.mn.us for an application.
Classroom sessions will include learning about the dispatch center, handgun orientation at the police shooting range, defensive tactics with hands-on participation, narcotics and vice investigations, gangs and their impact on the community, the K9 unit, and how the jail operates.
