Rodriguez cracks HR No. 40, and then some

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Alex Rodriguez became the sixth player in major league history to have five straight 40-homer seasons.

The Texas Rangers shortstop hit his 40th Saturday and by the end of the weekend had 44, overtaking Sammy Sosa of the Chicago Cubs for the league lead.

Rodriguez had five homers in two weekend games to tie the major league record with 24 others. His also pushed his RBIs total to 110, best in the majors. It's his fifth straight season with at least 100.
