Senior running back gains 187 yards vs. Lake City

LAKE CITY — Alex Roman is quickly proving himself to be one of the better running backs in the state.
Roman and the Rochester Lourdes offensive line were the difference Friday night as the Eagles plowed past Lake City 32-13 in Hiawatha Valley League football.

Roman, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound senior, finished with 187 yards rushing and three touchdowns. The TDs went for 56, 61 and 16 yards.
"Alex worked on his speed a lot during the off-season, and that has made a big difference for him," Lourdes coach Mike Kesler said.
Lourdes, which moved to 2-2 overall, broke open a close game in the fourth quarter. That started with the Eagles stopping Lake City on a fourth-down play from inside the Lourdes 10. Lourdes then converted a big fourth down of its own on its ensuing drive, then watched Roman follow that with a 61-yard touchdown run.
Lourdes outscored Lake City (1-3) 20-6 in the fourth quarter after leading just 12-7 heading into the frame.
Lourdes quarterback Tyler Greguson also had a big rushing day. He finished with 77 yards on the ground, with TD runs of 9 and 49 yards. Greguson also 84 yards passing, completing 6 of 10 of his attempts.
Lake City was led by its quarterback, Ben Krehbiel, with 202 yards passing. Krehbiel was 11-for-21 with two touchdowns and an interception. The TD strikes went 30 yards to Joe Klennert and 66 yards to Terence Pettis.
Lake City was outgained 320-171 on the ground. The Tigers were led by Jeff Gay with 98 yards rushing.
Lourdes linebacker Marcus Gudgel had a big interception with seven minutes left in regulation to ice the win.

The Eagles played their first game this season with Tom Gores, who had been nursing an injured calf. Gores played free safety.
