Rotary clubs award tournament proceeds

Rochester's Rotary clubs awarded $40,000 to area programs today.

The money was raised by the three clubs in the 16th annual Rotary-U S Bank Holiday Classic basketball tournament in December.

Receiving grants are the Rochester Park and Recreation Department for the skateboarding and BMX park; Boys &; Girls Club summer school program; Olmsted County Historical Society for its Hands On History Days; Rochester Community and Technical College for its "Get Up, Get Moving, Get Healthy, Get There" camp; Rochester Orchestra and Chorale for its "Honk * Squeak * Scratch * Boom" program; Rochester school district for scholarships for learning experiences such as programs at Quarry Hill or the Rochester Family Y; S.O.S. Silver Lake Pool fund; the Y Mentors program; the Rotary's Strive program; and the athletics departments at each of the Rochester high schools.

In total, the Rotary clubs have awarded $420,000 in the Holiday Classic's 16 years.
