BLOOMING PRAIRIE -- The funeral for Russell Arvid Ness will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the chapel at Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Blooming Prairie.
Mr. Ness, 78, of Blooming Prairie, a former Hormel Foods Corp. employee, died Saturday (Aug. 30, 2003) at Prairie Manor Nursing Home, where he had lived since November 2002.
Born July 15, 1925, in Pocahontas County, Iowa, he graduated from Linn Grove, Iowa, High School in 1943 and attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove. He farmed in the Peterson-Linn Grove area in his early years, and after moving to Minnesota worked on construction at the Hormel Foods Corp. plant in Austin and later inside the plant. After being laid off, he lived in Lansing, and after having heart surgery in 1996, he lived with a brother in Des Moines. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and golfing.
Survivors include three brothers, Dwayne of Marshalltown, Iowa, Carmen of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Larry Ness of Albert Lea; and a sister, Evelyn Bollinger of Iowa City, Iowa.
Friends may call half an hour before the service Friday at the nursing home.
