Sheehan leads Pacelli boys

Girls don’t place a runner in the varsity competition

EYOTA — The Austin Pacelli boys and girls cross country runners competed in the Dover-Eyota/St. Charles Invitational on Tuesday.

There were a total of eight teams on hand for the boys meet with only seven posting a team score on the day. Plainview-Elgin-Millville finished in first place with 31 team points. P-E-M also had the top individual runner as Grant Timm posted the best time at 16 minutes, 34 seconds.

Lewiston-Altura/Rushford-Peterson (83) was the runner-up, D-E/SC (84) was third, and Stewartville (87) took fourth-place. Lake City (105) finished in fifth, Lanesboro/Fillmore Central (156) was sixth, and Pacelli (161) posted its first team score of the season for a seventh-place finish.


"It was a great day to run," Pacelli coach Jim Parlin said. "Our runners are continuing to make progress from week-to-week. We had some really good results on the boys varsity in this meet."

Leading the way for Pacelli in the 5,000-meter varsity race was Colin Sheehan with a third-place finish in a new personal best time of 17:22. Michael Bergstrom finished 28th and also had a new personal best of 19:19. Max Brennan (55th) in a personal best of 21:38, Jonathon Koppa (61st) in a personal best of 22:22, and Brennen Russell (68th) in a time of 24:08.

Running in the 3,200-meter junior high race for Pacelli was Logan Finnegan (10th) at 15:17, and John Ethen (18th) in a time of 18:11.

"We ran a complete team because Brennen (Russell) moved up from the junior high to compete and Max (Brennan) and Jonathon (Koppa) moved up from the junior varsity," coach Parlin said. "Both Max and Jonathon ran personal best times.

Max dropped 58 seconds off his previous best and Jonathon dropped 38 seconds off his previous best. Colin (Sheehan) ran a strong third-place and dropped 21 seconds off his previous best time. Michael (Bergstrom) joined the group by dropping 21 seconds off his personal best time.

There were a total of five teams competing in the girls meet as Pacelli didn’t have any varsity runners. D-E/SC (15) finished first, L-A/R-P (83) was the runner-up, Lake City (91) took third, Stewartville (124) was fourth, and P-E-M (132) finished in fifth-place.

The individual winner for the girls meet was Kelly Hurtis of Dover-Eyota/St. Charles with a time of 15:38.

Both of the Pacelli girls competed in the 3,200-meter junior high race.


Annie Holtz of Pacelli was sixth at 16:42, and Madeline Kraemer finished eighth with a time of 16:52.

Pacelli cross country runners will next compete in the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Invitational on Tuesday.
