Shirley M. Shuck — Harmony

HARMONY — The Mass of Christian Burial for Shirley M. Shuck will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Nativity Catholic Church in Harmony. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Canton.

Mrs. Shuck, 58, of Harmony, died Saturday (April 5, 2008) at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Shirley Marie Stoltz was born Dec. 7, 1949, in Mitchell, S.D. Her family moved to south Minneapolis in 1955, and she graduated from Minneapolis Washburn High School in 1968. In August 1969 she graduated from Minneapolis Vocational School as an LPN. She married Gerald Shuck on Dec. 28, 1968, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Minneapolis. The couple lived in San Antonio, Texas, for three years while her husband served in the Air Force. They moved to Harmony in June 1976.

Mrs. Shuck was very active in community affairs. She belonged to the Harmony Hospital Auxiliary Unit 11 and was a past member of the Board of Directors for Harmony Healthcare. She volunteered 30 years at the bloodmobile collection site in Harmony and delivered Meals on Wheels for several years. She was involved with her daughters in the local Girl Scout troop and enjoyed helping with Kindergarten Roundup for many years. She was one of the founders of the Post Prom Committee at Harmony High School, served on the selection committee for the Dollars for Scholars Foundation, and also was part of the group that restored and developed the Harmony Train Depot into a craft store.

In September 1999 Mrs. Shuck suffered a ruptured cerebral aneurysm and had various complications since then. Prior to her illness, she was employed as an office manager at Steuart Laboratories. Her hobbies included cross-stitching, baking and scrap-booking.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Amy (Eric) Thompson of Byron and Kristi (Benjamin) Kiehne of Harmony; five grandchildren; her mother, Marie Stoltz of Burnsville, Minn.; a sister, Judy (Mike) Herzog of St. Paul; and two brothers, Robert (Hillary) Stoltz of Las Vegas and Randy (Mary) Stoltz of Chanhassen, Minn. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Stoltz.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony, and an hour before the service Wednesday at the church.
