Sister Benen Kent -- Rochester

ROCHESTER -- A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Benen Kent, 85, a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes of Rochester, will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes, Assisi Heights. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Sister Benen died Tuesday (June 24, 2003) at Assisi Heights. Margaret Agnes Kent was born Nov. 1, 1917, in Tilden, Neb. She entered the Franciscan Congregation in 1935 from Sacred Heart Parish, Norfolk, Neb. She made profession of vows in 1938 and began her teaching career in Saint Joseph Parish in Winona. She taught music in various schools in Minnesota, including Delano, North St. Paul, Austin and Winona. In Rochester, she taught at the School of Musical Art from 1940 to 1946 and at Lourdes High School from 1961 to 1963 and from 1968 to 1971. She also taught in Norfolk, Neb., and Chicago. She came to Assisi Height in 1973 and continued teaching piano and violin. She retired in 1993 and celebrated her diamond jubilee in 1998.

Surviving are her Franciscan Community and one sister, Dorothy Kent of El Segundo, Calif.

Friends may call at Assisi Heights at a wake service at 4:30 p.m. Thursday and until the time of service on Friday.
