"Dru Sjodin is the woman I love," he said. "She can make me laugh at the drop of a hat. She's full of life."

After graduating from the University of North Dakota this spring, Sjodin had planned to travel to Australia to take photographs of the Great Barrier Reef. But that all changed on Nov. 22, Lang said.

That was the day the 22-year-old disappeared from the parking lot of a Grand Forks, N.D., shopping mall.

Sjodin's mother also was scheduled to testify in support of the bill sponsored by Sen. Dave Kleis, but she and many others were stopped by Monday's surprise snowstorm.
