Softball | Faribault 4, Century 1

Century took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but it didn’t stick as Faribault scored four runs in the fifth to earn a 4-1 Big Nine Conference victory.

Breanna Bjerke hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Alanna Battey in the first inning for the Panthers.

Century pitcher Jenessa Johnson held the Falcons scoreless until the fifth inning. All four Faribault runs were unearned, thanks to two Century errors in the fifth.

Century put two runners on in the seventh but couldn’t push a run across.

Johnson had a career-high eight strikeouts in the loss. She walked just one batter and did not allow an earned run.

"Jenessa took a hard-luck loss," Century coach Tim Strain said. "She pitched her best game of the season, but a couple of mistakes from our defense in the fifth proved to be the difference.

"We battled all night long, but we’re just not coming up with that big hit right now. We’re hitting the ball hard though, so hopefully things will turn around for us."
