Bohlen sharp in win

Mayo just missed making it a sweep, getting nipped in the second game despite coming up with 11 hits.

Mayo rode the pitching of Sarah Bohlen in Game 1. She tossed a two-hitter, while walking none and striking out five.

"Sarah continues her climb to reach her potential as a big-time high school pitcher," Mayo coach Steve Riles said. "She is doing very well, learning to pitch and is getting better every time out."

Mayo finished with eight hits in the win. Amy Nelson was 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs. Emily Jasperson had two hits and scored a run, and Courtney Palmer tripled and scored a run.

In the second game, Mayo’s Leah Van Wettering made her first pitching start of the season after coming back from a tendon injury to her right foot.

Van Wettering worked 4 1/3 innings, and allowed five earned runs.

"She did a good job as we try to work her back into shape," Riles said.

Offensively, Mayo was led by Katelyn Harberts with two hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Kallie Clark had two hits, including a double, and Bohlen had two hits, including a triple.

Mayo (3-3 Big Nine, 4-5 overall) plays at Owatonna on Thursday.
