There is no Thursdays on First this week, but Kathy's Pub picks up the slack Thursday with R&B-with-an-emphasis-on-the-blues guitarist and singer Derek Post, who will play from 9 p.m. until midnight.
There isn't much audio evidence to go off of, but based on the 32-second preview of his music on his website, derekpost.com, it sounds like the Sioux Falls artist is working with a fair amount of sophistication. His instrumental backing brings to mind the soul-tinged R&B of "Continuum"-era John Mayer, while his voice sounds like a masculine Tracy Thorn from Everything But The Girl.
On Friday night, you can satiate your hunger for both pizza and an immersive experience at the DreamAcres Barn's pizza Friday in Wykoff. The barn will be serving pizza made from ingredients grown on site, while Martiza will provide a musical backdrop featuring historical songs from Europe and Russia, Jewish wedding dance horas, traditional Gypsy music, and dance songs from Bulgaria, Macedonia, Greece, and Romania.
Music goes from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m, and pizza will be served from 5 to 8. The event is one of just a handful that will feature music at the barn over the summer. If I found myself lost in their music while poking around through the group's Soundcloud page (soundcloud.com/elifinanger), I can only imagine how much more engaging it will sound while accompanied by a bluff-framed sunset and locally-source pizza. Also on Friday night, Four on the Floor, renowned for its ability to coax audiences into rhythmic frenzy, will play the North Star Bar starting at 8. The band's latest album is up on Soundcloud, soundcloud.com/the4onthefloor/sets/all-in, and features plenty of the raucous energy the Minneapolis band is renowned for. The crew brings a serious sense of purpose to its high-octane live shows, and seems to seldom leave audiences underwhelmed. For more, check out the band's website, 4otf.com.

Ivy Stone, a self-described exotic rock band, will play Kathy's Pub on Saturday night. Their latest EP, "Deja Vu," is full of nods to the band's influences, like Guns N' Roses, Aerosmith, Jimi Hendrix, and Led Zeppelin. You can stream the project in its entirety on their website, ivystonetheband.com. The punk-around-the-edges "In Life's Hands" stands out as my favorite of the four, with a poppy hook and righteous guitar solo. The band should bring a bolt of sonic energy to the Kathy's stage.

• On Friday night, Jason McKenzie will grace the Wicked Moose's acoustic stage from 9 until midnight.
• Jazz superfans will have a chance to listen to or play with the D'Sievers at the Jazz Jam starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday on the Civic Theatre patio. The quartet of Eric Straubmuller on keys, Denny McGuire on bass, Kurt Savela on drums, and John Sievers on trombone will back up anyone with selections from the Hal Leonard Real Books.
• Tracy Sonnier will bring his guitar and folk stylings to the Redwood Room for an evening of music on Friday night from 7 until midnight.
• The mellow sounds of guitarist Fernando Ufret's Flamenco, rock, and pop music will provide the backing music for diners at the Canadian Honker on Friday and Saturday nights from 7:30 until 10:30 both evenings.
