Southland/Grand Meadow falls in dual

ADAMS — The Southland/Grand Meadow boys golf team lost to Rushford-Peterson in a Three Rivers Conference dual meet at the Cedar River Country Club.

Rushford-Peterson won by a 170-204 in Friday’s team tally. Justin Simon and Brady Boyum of R-P were co-medalists with rounds of 40 on the day.

S/GM was led by Karsen Ulwelling and Matt Walk as they each shot rounds of 49 on the day.

"It was a tough day at the races, and R-P came to play," Southland/Grand Meadow coach Tim Brennan said.

"For whatever reason, we were not mentally ready to play. We’ve been improving in each meet, which is our goal, but (today) we took a step backwards. Put the loss on me. We’ll backup and re-group."

Austin girls compete

The Austin Packers girls golf team took part in a pair of meets last week.

Austin had its first home Big Nine Conference dual meet of the season on Tuesday. Albert Lea won 383-388 at the Austin Country Club.

Despite the team loss, Catherine Wagner of Austin was the medalist with round of 43-42—85. Other Austin results included: Natalie Swan 51-45—96; Alex Larson 54-44—98; Kelsey Stough 53-56—109; Lauren Stasi 56-54—110; and Lauren Schwab 66-51—117.

Austin finished sixth out of 13 team at the Farmington Invitational. Lakeville North won with a 345 and Austin finished at 388.

Wagner finished fifth individually with an 18-hole round of 41-45—86. Larson shot a 94, Stasi 99, Schwab 109, and Kristi Burton had a 131 for the Packers.

Austin next plays Tuesday afternoon with Mankato West and Winona at the Mankato Northlinks Golf Course.
