Spartans wind up 5th in true team meet

Rochester Mayo took fifth out of six teams entered in the Section 1AA true-team girls swimming and diving meet Saturday at Lakeville.

Lakeville won easily with 862 points. Mayo had 253. Century and John Marshall chose not to compete in the event. True-team swimming and diving is in the first year of a two-year trial.

Every entrant scores, so if 24 are entered in an event, first place is worth 24 points, second 23, etc.

Mayo got a second from Erin Caflisch in the 100 free (57.12), a third from Caflisch in the 50 free (25.98), a third from Kaylyn Wendroth in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.02), a fourth from Eliza Lynch in the 500 free (5:48.82), a seventh from Lynch in the 200 free (2:11.35), a sixth from its 200 medley relay team (2:01.95), an eighth from Robyn O'Brien in the 50 free (26.99), a ninth from Amanda Shuck in diving (236.10), a fifth from its 200 free relay team (1:49.64), an eighth from Jenny Daniels in the 100 backstroke (1:10.47) and a seventh from its 400 free relay unit (4:05.53).
