Split verdict for ex-Gopher Dominic Jones in sex assault case

Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS — Jurors are back with a split verdict for former Gophers football player Dominic Jones on charges that he sexually assaulted a woman.

Jurors found Jones innocent of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, which involves penetration. They found him guilty of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.

During the weeklong trial, jurors saw cell-phone video that appeared to show Jones masturbating over a woman. Prosecutors said the woman had passed out after a night of drinking and could not give her consent.

A witness testified that he saw Jones and the woman having sex. Jones denied penetrating her.
