Stella Prestegard — LeRoy

LEROY — The funeral for Stella Prestegard will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at LeRoy Evangelical Lutheran Church in LeRoy, with the Rev. Thomas Kolden officiating. Burial will be in LeRoy Lutheran Cemetery.

Mrs. Prestegard, 103, of Adams, formerly of LeRoy, died Thursday (March 27, 2008) at Adams Health Care Center.

Stella Hatlestad was born April 2, 1904, in Lodi Township in Mower County. She was baptized and confirmed in the rural Bethany Lutheran Church. After attending country school in Lodi Township, she worked as a clerk for Price and Walstad General Store in LeRoy. On Feb. 23, 1927, she married John H. Prestegard. The couple farmed in the area for 23 years before moving to LeRoy in 1950. Since breaking her hip in May 2001, she had been living at Adams Health Care Center.

Survivors include a daughter, Lorraine (Richard) Cray of Chester, Iowa; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, two brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call an hour before the service Friday at the church.


Hindt Funeral Home in LeRoy is in charge of arrangements.
