Three students from Chatfield middle/high school and five from St. Francis of Assisi Grade School in Rochester will go to the National History Day competition June 14-19 in Maryland after placing first or second the state competition.
In the state competition Sunday in the Twin Cities, about 1,500 students in grades six through 12 presented their projects. Fifty-two placed first or second.
The theme was "Conflict and Compromise in History."

- Junior group performance, second, Hanna Cody, Nora Laskowski, Carrie Schweyen, Megan VanDeVoorde and Maria McGlinch of St. Francis of Assisi — The Stolen Generation: A Broken Circle, A Missing Link.
