ROCHESTER — Although they didn't win the Rochester Mayo Invitational like last year, the Austin boys golf team still had a good showing on Wednesday afternoon at the Eastwood Course.
The Austin Packers finished sixth out of 11 teams at the meet. They had a team total of 320 on the day, which was only 10 strokes off the first-place pace.
Rochester Lourdes tallied a 310 team total to win the Mayo Invitational.

Shooting the low round for the Packers was Nick Tabor with a 76. Tabor finished tied for fifth individually and he closed out the round in style with an eagle on hole No. 18. This is a par 4, 347-yard hole.
"That was a great round for Nick, he drove the ball to the green on his tee shot," Austin coach Will Pazurek said. "He's really been been driving the ball well in recent meets. After the drive of over 300 yards, he sunk the putt and was pretty excited to finish with an eagle."
The Mayo Invite was the second of four meets scheduled this week for the Packers. Coming off a rough outing on Tuesday at the Mankato Country Club with a 332 in a triangular meet, the Austin boys played much better at Eastwood.
"The greens were in good shape, but the back nine was a little rough," Pazurek said. "Still, we played a lot better than on Tuesday. We just didn't have a good day and never seem to play well at the Mankato Country Club. I was happy with the way the boys played at Eastwood and 320 is about where we should be for a team score."
Luke Hoefflin had the second score for Austin with a round of 80. He also finished strong with a three-over par on the back nine.
Mark Thorson was one stroke behind with an 81, and Scott Snyder was the fourth score for the Packers with a round of 83. Connor Gunderson and Jordan Stasi were the other shooters for Austin.
"We were right in the mix and the guys are starting to find a rhythm on the course," the coach said. "I just hope they don't get burned out with all of the meets this week."
Austin boys head to the Northfield Golf Club this afternoon for the Northfield Invitational. The Packers then travel to Rhodes, Iowa, on Saturday for the Harvestor Meet hosted by Ballard High.
