NORTHFIELD, Minn. (AP) — Emergency response crews are working to contain a sulfuric acid leak from a derailed Union Pacific freight train near Northfield.
Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis says the acid is leaking from the bottom of one car at a rate of about one gallon an hour. It’s being contained by an earthen dam.
He says the leaking car has a maximum capacity of 30,000 gallons, but it’s not clear how much acid the car was actually carrying.
Davis says no injuries were reported from the derailment and no evacuations had been ordered.

Davis says there were a total of 104 cars in the train that was going from St. Paul to North Platte, Nebraska, but only 28 of them derailed.
