A newspaper delivery boy allegedly was caught Saturday entering a southeast Austin home and walking out with $220 in cash, police say.

Police responded about 12:30 p.m. to the 700 block of 10th Avenue Southeast, where a neighbor had called authorities and confronted the 16-year-old suspect outside of the burglarized home, Lt. John Mueller said.

The boy, from Austin, was seen looking in the home’s windows, then entering the residence through an unlocked side door, Mueller said.

He was taken to a juvenile-detention facility in Red Wing, according to the report.

Despite the turnout of this incident, Mueller advised people not to confront criminal suspects.

The carrier was delivering the Austin Post-Bulletin at the time of the incident.
