SPRING VALLEY -- Mark Teske ran the daily-double Saturday night at Deer Creek Speedway after a long rain delay.
The night of racing was running along smoothly, then a brief thunderstorm passed through the area. The resulting downpour only lasted 15 minutes, but it set the racing schedule back two hours.
Yet, the long wait didn't seem to bother Teske, who hails from Spring Valley. Running on his home track, Teske recorded back-to-back feature wins in the Late Model and Super Stock classes.

With only three laps remaining in the Late Model feature race, Lance Matthees held the lead over Teske. Then, a crash by Ben Mattick opened the door. Off the restart, Teske shot by Matthees to grab the lead and take the feature win.
"Good thing there was a restart," Teske said with a wry smile. "I saw my chance to take the lead and took advantage of it."
After winning the Late Model race, Teske jumped into his WISSOTA Super Stock car for a second feature event. Teske took the lead on the first lap and held on strong to the end.
Prior to the rain, Brian Kiehne won the Mod Lite feature and Shaun Wehlage won the Street Stocks. With five laps to go in the Mod Lite main event, Dan Wendt pulled off the track with rear suspension damage. Tate Bestor took advantage and pulled to the back end of Kiehne, who held on for the win.
The thunderstorm hit early in the Midwest Modified feature and it wreaked havoc. The road-grader came out for an extended period of time and finally the cars were driven over the surface to dry it out.
Nothing really seem to work, but they resumed the action after a two-hour delay.
"Our crew did a great job of getting the track back in shape," track owner Randy Queensland said. "The drivers were consulted and a majority of them wanted to finish the night's racing, so we continued the feature events."
After the victorious escapades of Teske were over, Joey Schaefer won the USRA Modifieds. With a dozen laps to go, a multi-car pileup stopped the action. The car of James Parker started on fire and had to be towed from the track.

Albert Wytaske finished the night with a feature win in the Midwest Modifieds.
Next weekend's show at Deer Creek is the first of five Saturday night racing activities where admission for all kids under 12 years old is free.
