It had been a few years, but Brookhaven College of Farmers Branch, Texas, can once again call themselves the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III volleyball champions.

The No. 1-ranked Lady Bears defeated the No. 3 Ridgewater College Warriors in the championship match Saturday at the University Center Rochester Regional Sports Center. The scores were: 25-17, 25-20 and 25-22.

This was the second year in a row that Ridgewater has lost in the championship match. Last year it fell to Brainerd-based Central Lakes College.

Brookhaven is no stranger to nationals; this was its fifth consecutive year of competing at this level. Last year it took third behind Ridgewater, and 2005 it won it all.

Rounding out the top three was Hibbing College, which defeated William Rainey Harper College of Palatine, Ill., in four games: 25-21, 25-20, 14-25 and 25-15.

The tournament was hosted by the Rochester Amateur Sports Commission.
