Thomas J. Koenigs -- Adams

ADAMS -- The funeral for Thomas J. Koenigs will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams, with the Rev. Gregory Leif officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Koenigs, 95, of Adams, a retired farmer and railroad employee, died Sunday (April 7, 2002) at Stacyville Community Nursing Home in Stacyville, Iowa.

Born Sept. 10, 1906, in Meyer, Iowa, he attended Sacred Heart School in Meyer and worked for area farmers. On Feb. 9, 1932, he married Mildred Kloeckner and they farmed in the Adams area. After retiring from farming in 1961, he worked for Great Western Railroad for 10 years. In the early 1970s they moved to Adams and he lived there until entering the nursing home in July 2001. His wife died in January 1997. Mr. Koenigs was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Rosary Club and the railroad union. His interests included playing cards, gardening, and fishing. He enjoyed making rosaries and during his lifetime made more than 25,000 for missions.

Survivors include two daughters, Marian (Fred) Huntley-Lickteig of Rose Creek and Theresa (Roger) Harding of Nashua, Iowa; four sons, John T. (Carol) of Rochester, Fred (Jean) of Adams, Ronald (Theresa) of Cambridge, Ill., and Dick (Pat) of Stewartville; 22 grandchildren; and 48 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, seven brothers and six sisters.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Adams Funeral Home.
