Thomford wins Women's Road Race

Zumbrota's Deb Thomford captured the 23rd annual Rochester Women's Road Race Saturday by nearly a minute.

Thomford, 44, ran the four-mile race circuit around Silver Lake in 26 minutes, 40 seconds, finishing ahead of Teri Pruszynski, who ran a 27:35. LaRee Etter was third in 27:43, Brittney Schwager fourth in 27:50 and Michelle Aveldson finished fifth in 28:46.

There were 108 runners who started the race and 100 finishers accoring to race director Jeanne Block. The race is a Rochester Track Club Grand Prix series.

The 27th annual Douglas Trail Races will be held Saturday on the Douglas Trail, beginning in Douglas and inlcuding a two-mile and 11-mile run. The races start at 8 a.m.

Entry fee is $9 through Thursday and $10 after. Call race director PaulAnderson at 282-7213 for information.
