CHARLES CITY, Iowa -- Three cities have submitted proposals to be the home of a new welcome center in Floyd County.
The Cedar Valley Rural Conservation &; Development Office in Charles City has been asked to serve as a facilitator for the initial proposals, which came from Charles City, Floyd and Nashua, said Kurt Hoeft, a coordinator for the office.
Four spots on the Avenue of Saints, a four-lane highway in Floyd County, were identified for the project, which is still in the discussion stage, he said.
Those communities were Rudd, Floyd, Nashua and Charles City. All but Rudd submitted proposals after a March meeting to discuss the project.
Hoeft said the Iowa Department of Transportation is not interested in funding the welcome center, but has worked with his office in an advisory role.

The center, if built, likely will be funded privately, or with grant money, Hoeft said.
