Two passengers in a car were critically injured Sunday morning when the driver tried to pass a car on the shoulder, went into a ditch and hit an embankment.
Cristin Barrios Cruz, 35, of Austin, and Feliciano Maldonado-Vasquez, 33, of La Center, Wash., were listed in critical condition at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester, according to a Mayo Clinic spokeswoman.
The driver, Antonio Lopez-Maldonado, 29, of Roseboro, N.C., was reported in serious condition at the hospital, she said.
The State Patrol said Lopez-Maldonado was driving north on Minnesota Highway 218 about a mile south of Mower County Road 4 at the time of the accident. It was reported at 9:34 a.m.
