- 1980 — IBM starts shipping the System/38 computer from Rochester.
- 1983 — The System/36 computer starts rolling out of Rochester.
- 1988 — IBM Rochester announces the AS/400 — Application System/400 — which combines aspects of System/38 and System/36.
- 2000 — The name of the AS/400 is changed to the iSeries. Earlier in the year, running the UNIX and the Windows operating systems was adding to the computer’s capabilities.
- 2001 — iSeries machines are sold equipped with the open operating system, Linux.
- 2005 — IBM begins using the Power5 processing chip.
- 2006 — As part of a rebranding effort, IBM changes the iSeries name to System i.
- 2008 — IBM brings the System i and the System p servers together under the name of Power Systems, adds Power6 chips and more flexibility in what operating systems it can use.
