Ten businesses in Austin will be fined for selling tobacco to minors.
Austin Police Department has concluded its annual tobacco compliance check of 42 businesses. Police Chief Paul Philipp said the 10 businesses will be notified through the mail of the $75 fines.
The violation was the first for all of the businesses except one. Businesses are fined $100 for their second violation and $250 for a third violation within 24 months of the second one. A business with three violations would have its license suspended for no less than seven business days.
For the compliance checks, a minor or several minors attempt to purchase tobacco products in each of the stores.
