Volunteers who want to help with local and national disaster response may enroll in an online introductory course offered by the Southeast Minnesota Chapter of the American Red Cross.
This course is offered at www.redcross.org and those who complete the course may register for any following classes held at the American Red Cross in Rochester. Disaster training is provided at no charge.
The introductory course provides basic information about the activities and processes of the logistics function in support of a disaster relief operation.
A logistics simulation takes place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 5 to provide participants the opportunity to demonstrate their skills.
CPR and first aid certification for disaster volunteers is offered from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 12. CPR certification is valid for one year and first aid certification is for three years. Disaster volunteers are required to keep their certifications current.
