There will be a workshop Sept. 10-11 in Rochester to certify people as limited short-call substitute teachers.
The Southeast Service Cooperative is coordinating the program, which will allow people to be substitutes in school districts in 11 southeastern Minnesota counties. Limited short-call substitutes, by state law, can teach if a district doesn't have enough substitute teachers with regular licenses or not enough regular short-call teachers.
To be eligible, the person must have a degree from a college or university accredited by the regional accreditation association. The license is good for a year.
Those attending the program will get help in filling out the forms and doing background checks and fingerprinting, as well as basic instruction in classroom management and instruction.
Cost is $125 per person, as well as $47 to apply for a license and $26 for the background check and fingerprinting.
