Triton reaches section semifinals

Triton scored three runs in the first inning and went on to beat Martin County West 4-2 in the Section Two, Class AA tournament.

Walks to Adam Schmoll and Trevor Kispert started the rally. They were followed by a Ryan Fate RBI single, another walk to Britton Wolf, and a two-run single by Tyler Paulson. The Cobras scored again in the third on a triple by Britton Wolf and a passed ball.

Martin County's only real threat came in the bottom of the seventh when, after striking out two batters, Tyler Paulson was tapped for a single. An error put a second man on, and another single scored one run. Britton Wolf came on in relief with one man on, but an infield single scored a second run.

The Cobras made the most of their three hits, while the pitching of sophomore Tyler Paulson kept Martin County in check. Paulson picked up the win, giving up no earned runs on four hits with nine strikeouts.

Triton plays the winner of Maple River and LeSueur-Henderson in the Section 2AA semifinals at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Peter.
