Truck driver having diabetic reaction forced to a stop on U.S. 52

Law enforcement officers from several agencies joined the pursuit of a semi tractor being driven erratically on U.S. 52 near the Apache Mall on Tuesday.

Rochester Police Lt. John Edwards said stop sticks were finally used to disable the front tires of the tractor, forcing the driver into the median about two miles south of 11th Avenue Southeast on U.S. 52. The tractor then got stuck in the mud.

Edwards said that when officers approached the cab, the driver was unresponsive.

It was determined he was having a diabetic reaction, was given some soda and he revived. No charges are expected. The driver is a 33-year old Zumbrota man. The incident occurred about 2:45 p.m.
