MINNEAPOLIS — Austin High’s state Class A swimming and diving meet entrants had tough breaks on Friday during the preliminaries at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center.
The Packers 200 freestyle relay team and Jaceb Crews, swimming in the 50 freestyle, finished 17th in their respective events.
Crews and the relay team narrowly missed spots in today’s consolation finals.
The top eight swimmers and relay teams in Friday’s preliminaries advanced to today’s final, while the ninth through 16th finishers in the preliminaries will swim in the consolation finals.

Crews entered with the 16th-best seed time, but missed a spot in the consolation finals by just five-hundredths of a second. He finished in 23.05 seconds Friday, just .05 of a second behind Tyler Moulton of Red Wing.
The Packers’ 200 free relay team missed out on a spot in the consolation finals by .51 of a second. Austin’s team of Crews, Zach Rausch, Jordan Stasi and Eric Lenway finished in 1:34.69 on Friday.
The 16th-place time of 1:34.18 was swam by Perham’s team.
