MINNETONKA, Minn. -- UnitedHealth Group Inc. said Thursday that second-quarter earnings jumped 35 percent on growth across its businesses.
The Minnetonka-based insurer earned $439 million, or 71 cents a share, up from $325 million, or 51 cents a share, a year earlier. The figures reflect a 2-for-1 stock split that took place during the second quarter.
Revenue rose 17 percent to $7.09 billion, up from $6.08 billion a year earlier.
Health Care Services commercial membership increased by about 200,000 people during the quarter, to 7.8 million. And its AARP-managed Medicare supplement program added 60,000 subscribers.
