Verdel Benson -- Spring Grove

SPRING GROVE -- The funeral for Verdel Benson will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove, with the Rev. Zane Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery, with military rites provided by American Legion Post 249 of Spring Grove.

Mr. Benson, 84, of Spring Grove, died Wednesday (Nov. 2, 2005) at Tweeten Health Services in Spring Grove.

He was born Feb. 5, 1921, in Spring Grove Township, and was a Spring Grove High School graduate. He served in the Navy from June 18, 1942 to Jan. 28, 1946. On Sept. 17, 1950, he married Betty Funk in La Crosse, Wis. Before coming back to Spring Grove, he had lived in La Crosse and Orlando, Fla. He was retired from Roverud Construction Co. in Spring Grove and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Spring Grove American Legion Post 249 and the Caledonia VFW.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Virginia (Dennis) Karlsbroten of Mabel and Carol (Michael) Sherburne of Spring Grove; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Paul. Two brothers preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Roble Funeral Service in Spring Grove.


The family requests memorials to Trinity Lutheran Cemetery Fund or the Spring Grove Library.
