RED WING — The funeral for Verona M. Johnson will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Red Wing, with the Rev. Christine Engstrom officiating. Burial will be in Trenton Cemetery.
Mrs. Johnson, 85, formerly of Red Wing, died Sunday (April 19, 2009) at the Ellsworth (Wis.) Care Center.
Verona Marcella Baringer was born July 19, 1923, in Red Wing, to Albert and Ethel (Olander) Baringer. She attended schools in Red Wing. On Dec. 28, 1940, she married Eldon Johnson in Iowa. The couple lived in River Falls, Wis., and Red Wing before moving to Hager City, Wis., in 1970.
Survivors include her husband; three children, Delbert (Nancy) and Doreen (Dan) Bartlewski, both of Red Wing, and Lynelle (Greg) Engeset of Ellsworth; one daughter-in-law, Lola Johnson of Bay City, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Marvin (Jean) Baringer of Red Wing; a sister, Darlene (Leo) Goulette of Ellsworth; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Baringer of Red Wing; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, a brother, a great-grandson and a granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home , Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing, and an hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
