ROCHESTER — A memorial service for Violet M. Nietz will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Macken Funeral Home Colonial Chapel, with Father Harry Jewison officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Nietz, 78, of Rochester, died peacefully Saturday (April 25, 2009) at her home, following a two-year battle with cancer.
She was born Violet Woodworth on Feb. 2, 1931, in Stewartville. At age 12 her family moved to Rochester from Stewartville and she graduated from Lourdes High School in 1949. After two years of travel she married Arvid Otto Nietz in Denver on Oct. 4, 1952. She worked at Michaels Restaurant, retiring after 27 years. Her husband is a retired electrician for Nietz Electric; he survives.
Mrs. Nietz loved bingo, walking her dog, and especially being with her family. She was an avid supporter of various animal charities, and will always be known to her family as their best friend.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Kim Urbanek of La Crosse, Wis., Julie Nietz of Rochester and Jeff (Tammy) Nietz of Eagan, Minn.; and grandchildren Luke, Jake, Nick and Elli. She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
