Violet 'Vickie' Simonson -- Grand Meadow

GRAND MEADOW -- The funeral for Violet "Vickie" Simonson will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ostrander, with the Rev. Jane Timmerman officiating. Burial will be in Bear Creek Lutheran Cemetery in Frankford Township, Mower County.

Mrs. Simonson, 76, of Grand Meadow, a retired cook, died Friday evening (Sept. 13, 2002) at Grand Meadow Health Care Center, where she had resided since April.

Violet Deloris Waller was born Dec. 5, 1925, and attended Austin schools. On May 9, 1947, she married Maynard Everett James Simonson at the Lutheran parsonage in Grand Meadow. Her husband died in 1980. She owned and operated the Grand Meadow Cafe for four years and later cooked at Meadow Manor in Grand Meadow for 71⁄2; years. She enjoyed fishing, cooking, sewing and crafts.

Survivors include four daughters, Lanna (Ronald) Gehling of Preston, Jeanie (Dennis) King of Ostrander, and Rhonda (Mike) Ptacek and Julie (Marty) Stier, both of Grand Meadow; a son, Donnie of Grand Meadow, 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Julia (Dwight) Waldron of Austin. She was preceded in death by a grandson, four brothers and five sisters.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home in Grand Meadow and an hour before the service Tuesday at the church.
